i think he's earned a meltdown. speaking of, i have slept like maybe 3 hours over the past 2 nights so i'm about to have a meltdown of my own (i live in mn and things are... TENSE)

anyways, here's what Hana gathered from his little folder. what he's got is like, an intake form with an interview from one of his parents, and then some experimentation records. i drafted [some examples] back in 2021 if you want to look at them (beware of the content warnings up top) it's a free patreon post

Gifts of Wandering Ice is a sci-fi webcomic about ancient things people find in melting icebergs.

The Bright Side follows the coming-of-age of two best friends: a self-assured human girl named Emily, and the eternal but naive Death. They navigate life and love together, expand each other's worlds, and only occasionally receive mysterious portents of doom from the future.

 

TRANSCRIPT:
panel 1: Hana avoids eye contact, looking off at nothing. Hana: "J-just that I was shorter and fatter than I should have been..." He starts tearing up with a little bit of a manic smile. Hana: "They- my parents- they were just regular humans-! They didn't know of any dwarves in their family- so- so I must have already looked real strange, huh!"
panel 2: Hana continues talking, Bon watches, concerned but still just listening. Hana: "and I- I was hard t-to take care of-! I learned things too slow o- or not at all..."
panel 3: Hana is just fully crying now, still smiling. Hana: "it- I was so bad, I tore my parents apart- so they ha- had to send me here!"
panel 4: Hana wipes away tears but more just keep coming. Bon still listens patiently, looking more sad. Hana: "But I was no g-good here either! Couldn't even be a useful test subject.."
panel 5: Even though he's just wiped his tears, more fall anyways, but he's still got that sad, sad smile on. Hana: "All I did was be- become even more strange looking-! ha!" He continues: "E-eventually the cost of keeping me alive was 'over the maximum suggested cost for a defective subject's-so they bagged me up and sent me to be disposed!"
panel 6: Hana covers his face with both hands. Hana: "but I- I couldn't even DIE right!" Bon is now glaring at Hana, not liking the implication that Hana should ever die.
panel 7: Hana takes his hands away from his face. He's still crying, but the manic smile is gone. He's just sad. Hana: "I stupidly lived.. jus-just to mess everything up again.."
